Place Value in Room 5

We are learning all about Place Value in Room 5 at the moment. Today we talked about all the different ways we knew which number was bigger when comparing two numbers. Miss Boaler gave us a challenge to see who could make the biggest number only using 12 pop sticks. We had to copy the numbers off the calculator. The biggest number we came up with was 1471.

Can you make any bigger numbers?

Reading with Room Rua

Today we read our reading books to Room Rua and they read their books back to us. We also did some drawing together and played some reading games.  It was so fun to work together to help each other sound out words. Thanks so much for the visit Room Rua- come back again soon!

Parents check out our reading buddies.

Can you work this problem out? Room 5 can!

Mr Pearse is selling lollies. He has 8 bags and can only fit 3 lollies in each bag. How many lollies will he need to buy altogether?

Miss Boaler gave us this problem to work out today. We are learning all about Multiplication (times tables). Multiplication is the number of groups x the number in the groups.

Can you be as clever as Room 5 and work how many lollies Mr Pearse needs? Please post your answer and how you worked it out.

Here are a few photos of our amazing thinkers!

A real dinosaur bone!!

Room 5 are lucky enough to have a real dinosaur bone to look at in their room. Mrs Ingpen brought it in for us to have a look out. Her husband found it! How cool is that? It is a femur (which is a part of the leg). Its way bigger than our femur thats for sure. Thanks so much Mrs Ingpen!

DINOSAURS!

We have had a great start to Term 2 so far. Our topic for this term is DINOSAURS. How cool is that? We have two pet Dinosaurs in our classroom - Dino and Spotty. Our friends will be going home with someone each day and having a sleep over for one night then coming back to school to spend time with us as a class. It is really important if your child takes our friends home that they come back the next day.

We have also been talking a little about ANZAC day. It would be great to talk to children about family connections you may have. Children are starting to get a little bit of an idea what ANZAC day is all about.

Our Yummy Apple Crumble

We used the apples we picked to make some apple crumble. We had to peel an apple each and cut it into little pieces. The next day we were allowed to eat the apple crumble we created. Do you know what? We had Hockey Pokey ice cream with the crumble! It was still warm and delicious. Thank you so much to the parents that came in and helped us to make the Apple Crumble. Here are a few photos to show you how much we loved it.

The Vintage Cars

Today we went in the vintage cars. We dressed up in bow ties and beaded necklaces and got to ride in the amazing old cars. We did two laps of the field and some of us got to go over the hill. It was fun but a little bit bumpy. Thanks so much for bringing the cars to Mahora.
