Our 3D shape hunt

Today we got given magazines and had to find the 3D shapes we have been learning about in class. It was fun to try and see where we find these shapes in real life

Ruler time

Today for maths we acted like Scientists and had to write down as many things as we could about rulers. We had to work as a team to look very closely at the ruler. Here are a few things we noticed:
Rulers are 30 centimetres or 300 millimetres long.
The gaps between the numbers are exactly the same.
We start measuring from the 0.
There are 8 little lines and 1 big line between each number.
Together as a class we discussed why these thugs are important.

Matariki at Reading time

Today for Reading we did something different. Miss Boaler put out lots of information about Matariki and we had to find 7 facts and write them down. We had fun learning more about Matariki and can't wait to share with you on Friday. Look at how well we are working together.

Measurement fun

Yesterday we made paper planes and did an investigation into how far they could fly. As a group we had to estimate and then measure with two different units. It was a lot of fun. Check out our measuring skills.

Room 5 Maths Measuring

We have been learning how to use a ruler properly by using our crocodile rulers. We have learnt about half, quarter and 3 quarters. Check us out measuring things around our room and recording down how long they are. We are being careful to start from the same place and record exactly where it stops.

Our technology challenge

Today Miss Boaler put us in groups of 4 and gave us 25 marshmallows and 15 kebab sticks and told us to build the tallest tower we could. We had to use team work to make our creation. We did such an awesome job and all managed to create a stable tower. We then came up with ideas of how we could measure our towers. We decided cubes would be the fairest way and wrote 2 sentences about our tower. First sentence was how tall our tower was in cubes and the second how tall it was in centimetres. We learnt some new maths words today while having fun! Check us out...

Bubble fun in Room 5!

Today for Writing we talked about building up our vocabulary to help us describe things in our Writing with more detail. We brainstormed what bubbles feel and look like. We came up with some awesome new words we can use tomorrow in our Writing. Check us out.
